Over the past 30 years, Rotary District 7470 in Northern New Jersey, and Rotary District 2670 in Shikoku, Japan have sponsored the Summer Youth Exchange Trip. More than 1,000+ students have participated in this three week summer adventure. Students, ages 15 to 23, from around the district, travel to Japan for a rare cultural experience. The group, chaperoned by district 7470 Rotarians depart in the first week of July for Shikoku Island, where they are hosted by families of Japanese Rotarians. Participants have found that this provides and unparalleled opportunity to understand their culture and customs on a personal level. The estimated cost of air and ground transportation to Shikoku Island is $2,300. Expenses incurred for housing, meals, and local transportation will be borne by the Japanese host families.
In return, R.I. district 7470 hosts incoming Japanese students for a 3 week stay with host families in Northern New Jersey. For the past 16 years, the J.T.R.C. has hosted a New York City Day for these students. This year, the Japanese students will enjoy a tour of New York City. Completing their day in the city, the students will enjoy a trip to Yankee Stadium for the last game in the old stadium..
